This Is What The VMA Red Carpet Looked Like In 1995

So much satin.

It's hard to believe the 2015 Video Music Awards are right around the corner, but to celebrate the Miley Cyrus-hosted fun-fest that's about to go down, we decided to look back at what people were wearing on the 1995 VMA red carpet because, well, we love any excuse to ogle incredible '90s fashion. (To make you feel hella old, this was also the same year Kendall Jenner was born.) Check out all the (very shiny!) outfits our faves were wearing 20 years ago, and try not to tear up at all the amazingness happening on one single red carpet.

Michael Jackson

Not only did the King of Pop arrive to the '95 VMAs in a decked-out patent leather jacket, skinny jeans and gold leg armor ensemb', but this was the year he performed a 15-minute medley of his hits “Beat It,” “The Way You Make Me Feel,” “Black or White” and “Smooth Criminal." Whewwww, whatta show.

Madge made her VMA appearance in a simple chic all-satin outfit with a very Ariana Grande-esque half pony and soft cat eye look. Oh, and of course her bra was showing.

Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson

Janet–who won a Best Dance Video Moonman for her video "Scream" with Michael–wore a crop top with "Pervert" written across the back paired with wide-leg trousers and a perfectly-messy pixie. This year, Nicki Minaj also wore a "Pervert" tee in her "Feeling Myself" vid with Beyonce—Janet's impact, y'all.

Ahh, the pink-haired Dennis Rodman era. It's truly a treat. Here, he wore a sparkly tank top with wide-leg jeans, a belly chain and layered necklaces because he's Dennis Rodman.

TLC

TLC took home the biggest award of the night–Video of the Year!–but TBH, we're more interested in these coordinating head-to-toe looks. Even their shoes are the perfect shade of off-white.

The couple decided to match in trenches and even went for the typical prom pose for this picture.

Salt N Pepa

Salt-N-Pepa decided to go for an all-black look for their VMA arrival, and we are L-O-V-I-N-G the Dolce & Gabbana printed accessories (hi, tiny backpack!).

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore KILLED the 1995 VMA red carpet in a strapless ruched gown with a cape, and she totally knew it. RIP Drew's dark-lipped, skinny eyebrow era. We will never forget you.

Lenny Kravitz

Lenny Kravitz

For some reason, seeing Lenny in wraparound shades is kind of jolting since we legit only see him in aviators these days, but we gotta give major kudos to his matching pinstripe pants and vest situation because it fits him SO well.

Claire Danes

The 12th Annual MTV Video Music Awards

Before Claire Danes became a badass CIA officer, she was just a teenage bb on "My So-Called Life" in 1995. At the VMAs, she nailed the blonde-bob-and-burgundy-lip look so hard we actually want to try it out IRL. Also, how did she manage to make an entirely shiny outfit look this good? We may never know.

P. Diddy and The Notorious B.I.G.

Notorious BIG

P. Diddy and The Notorious B.I.G. opted for patterned button-ups and baggy jeans for their VMA arrival, but Biggie threw on a white Homburg hat to take his ensemble to the next level.

Courtney Love

Courtney Love

When we think of the '90s, an image of Courtney Love immediately appears in our brain, so of course she made an appearance at the 1995 VMAs in a black leather and lace ensemble with her signature burgundy lip shade.

Dr. Dre

Dr. Dre

If you've seen Straight Outta Compton, here's proof they they recreated Dr. Dre's comfy-cool ensembles from that era perfectly.

Brandy

Brandy was a ~vision~ in her satin trench, patent leather boots and bold lipstick. TBH, girl hasn't changed much in 20 years. WERKKK.

George Clooney

Ummm, apparently George Clooney attended the '95 show, and we totally are into his super chill jeans-and-blazer vibe because, well, he's George Clooney.
