‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper's 5 Best Non-Wrestling, Still-Badass Moments

'Hot Rod' was also an actor and a formidable presence.

On Thursday (July 30), former WWE superstar "Rowdy" Roddy Piper died in his sleep at his Hollywood home. He was 61 years old.

His pals, including fellow wrestler Ric Flair and former WWE writer Vince Russo, tweeted their condolences.

It's always sad when a wrestler dies relatively young (and an alarming number of them do, the data proves), but Piper's case is unique because he wasn't just another scrapper in the ring. He was a WWE Hall of Famer, having been inducted in 2005, and was also named the top villain in the organization's history in 2012.

But if you never watched wrestling, there's a good chance you observed Piper's manic gruffness in one of his outrageously, cartoonishly awesome acting roles -- maybe John Carpenter's '80s alien cheese-fest "They Live," or maybe on a random TV show. His acting was a natural extension of his in-ring character -- a rough-hewn, leather jacket-sporting badass -- and these clips capture that spirit perfectly.

"Not this year."

In one of cinema's most gratuitous fight scenes, Piper squares off against Keith David in a grungy back alley in "They Live" -- a film whose plot involves magic sunglasses that allow him to see which human bodies have, in fact, been taken over by alien. Yes.

"...And I'm all out of bubblegum."

Pretty much Piper's unofficial catchphrase, also from "They Live" (which is not currently streaming on Netflix so, like, c'mon guys).

Parodying himself.

Roddy Piper

A wrestler-turned-actor will always do well poking fun at him/herself, and Piper did it perfectly on "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" as Da Maniac -- a disgruntled, broke, washed-up take on his own character.

A "Storage Wars" cameo? Sure.

Piper knew his kilts. He really, really did.

Fighting childhood obesity.

In his later years, Piper valued the importance of PSAs. Because civic duties.

RIP Hot Rod. You will be missed.
