It's a rarity for a film adaptation of a beloved novel to totally capture the haunting, gorgeous quality of the original text, but it looks like "Room" might have done it.

The movie, starring Brie Larson and based on Emma Donoghue's standout 2010 novel of the same name, follows the lives of Ma (Larson) and five-year-old Jack (Jacob Tremblay). Jack was born in the place he calls Room, a small, one-room shack. He's never had a window other than a small skylight, seen the world outside or felt a fresh breeze. Ma and Jack are held captive in Room by Old Nick (Sean Bridgers), and Ma does her best to educate Jack and keep him healthy within the confines of their very small world.

Will she ever be able to get them out of Room, and if she does, will they ever truly escape its effects?
