'Archie' Is Coming To The CW And We Are Freaking Out
Archie is getting a live action makeover, and before you scoff at the idea of bringing these beloved comic book characters to life, just wait until you hear who's responsible for the crazy idea: Greg Berlanti. Yes, the man responsible for all of your favorite shows ("Arrow," "The Flash" and "Supergirl").
"Riverdale," based on the characters and town immortalized in the Archie comics, has now found a prospective home in the CW, where the project currently has a pilot script in development, per a press release from Archie Comics.
The one-hour drama will be a "dark and twisty" take on the wholesome town of Riverdale and its teen residents Archie, Betty, Veronica, as well as Josie and the Pussycats (!). OK, we were kind of sold on the idea of a subversive show about Archie, Betty and Veronica -- but now that we know Josie, Melody and Valerie are involved, WE ARE SO THERE.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, chief creative officer of Archie Comics and a consulting producer on Berlanti's "Supergirl" series, will write the pilot. The news of Archie's big move comes just days after the successful relaunch of the comic.
As for Archie himself, well, he's a total hottie now, which is perfectly on brand for the CW.
