Boy Band Singer Collapses After Wearing All His Clothes To Avoid Luggage Fees

Extreme layering. Don't try this at the airport.

Anyone who flies regularly knows what a bummer baggage fees are. Trying to get your luggage in under weight can mean keeping a pair of boots in your laptop case or wearing your jacket on a hot summer day.

James McElvar, 19, a singer for the Scottish band Rewind, took money-saving measures to the extreme on Wednesday, July 8 when traveling from Stansted to Glasgow. A woman at the airport told him he had too many bags and would "either have to pay a £45 fee to get [them] on the plane, get the flight the next morning, bin the clothes or wear them," he told The Sun.

In what seemed like a resourceful move at the time, McElvar then proceeded to pile on as many clothes as he could possibly fit onto his body. He walked onto his EasyJet flight wearing six t-shirts, five jumpers, three pairs of jeans, two sweat pants, two jackets and two hats. Seriously.

While wearing a small boutique's worth of clothes on your body at once may be an impressive act of physical strength, it's not ideal for your health. Soon after McElvar had gotten dressed in all of his outfits, he fell ill from heat exhaustion and had to be treated by an off-duty paramedic on the flight. While we're guessing McElvar's money-saving antics made his bandmates laugh, the situation became no laughing matter as soon as his health took a downturn.

"I thought I was a goner and that I was having a heart attack," McElvar said.

Once back home in his hometown of Glasgow, McElvar was hospitalized and his condition improved under the care of doctors. Members of Rewind quickly took to Twitter to assure their fans that McElvar was on the mend.

The band, which already has a significant following, just signed with management group Roar Global. Here's hoping their continued success means that soon, the boys will be able to pay for a luggage fee like it ain't no thing.
