7 Gun-Shaped Things That Probably Don’t Need To Be Gun-Shaped

Police call this novelty iPhone case a 'terrible idea,' but what about other weapon-themed stuff?

Police and politicians are not having any fun with the new trend of novelty iPhone cases shaped like real guns.

In a post on Facebook, the New Jersey State Police called the cases "a terrible idea" because their realistic handle and color options make them way too similar to the real-deal -- which they say can be really risky in emergency situations.

"Officers do not have the luxury of time when making split-second decisions, while interacting with the public," NJPD continued in their post, saying that the very real looking threat of a possible gun makes everything less safe for officers and civilians alike.

Senator Chuck Schumer (yes, a cousin of Amy) said that the phone cases, imported from overseas, are "illegal" anyway, because they don't have the necessary orange tip on the end of the barrel that novelty guns are required to have.

So, yeah, these things are totally not something you want to see in someone's pocket when waiting in line at a gas station or the bank. Yet, gun-themed novelty items are still really common. They're generally pretty harmless and occasionally clever, but sometimes you have to wonder why we'd even want all this stuff to look like guns in the first place? Maybe it's a little much.
