Ocala Had Taken It Down, But Then Reinstated It On Tuesday

As South Carolina inches closer to removing the Confederate flag from its statehouse grounds, a city in Florida just voted to re-raise the controversial symbol of the Civil War atop a county building in Ocala, after reportedly getting overwhelmingly angry feedback from residents during a meeting on Tuesday. Members of the Marion County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to reinstate the flag on Tuesday after taking it down at the end of June following the murders of 9 people at the Emanuel AME church in Charleston.

Meanwhile, the Memphis City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to remove the remains of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest from a municipal park and Republicans in Iowa faced controversy after a truck pulling the Marion County Republicans’ float in two 4th of July parades was spotted flying three Confederate flags.

Federal Agent’s Gun Reportedly Used In S.F. Shooting

The murder of a San Francisco woman by an undocumented Mexican felon took a new twist on Tuesday when it was reported that the man reportedly used a gun stolen from a federal agent. Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, who has been deported five times and convicted of 7 felonies, has been charged with murder in the shooting of 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle on July 1, a crime that has drawn national scrutiny because Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has used it to bolster his controversial claims that illegal immigrants with criminal records are coming over the border from Mexico and committing crimes in the U.S. In her first nationally televised interview on Tuesday, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said Sanchez should have been deported.

Disney Pulls Bill Cosby Statue After Drug Revelations

Disney said on Tuesday that it would remove a bronze statue of Bill Cosby from Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios one day after the unsealing of a deposition the long-married comedian gave in 2005 in which he admitted to buying sedatives to drug women before having sex with them; the move came months after a change.org petition was posted asking the park to remove the statue from its Hall of Fame Plaza.

The judge who released the damning documents on Tuesday said he did it because of the 77-year-old Cosby’s longtime stance as a "public moralist" who lectured others about their moral failings. The Los Angeles Police Department is conducting at least one criminal investigation into allegations of sexual assault against Cosby, who has been accused of misconduct by dozens of women; Bounce TV and BET announced on Tuesday that they would stop airing shows starring Cosby.

Quick Take 1: The 17-year-old Finnish hacker who is accused of being a member of the "Lizard Squad" collective that launched a huge denial-of-service attack on Xbox Live and Sony’s Playstation Network over Christmas has been convicted of 50,700 computer crimes. Julius "zeekill" Kivimaki was given a two-year suspended sentence by a Finnish court and ordered to "fight against cybercrime," but will not go to prison.

Quick Take 2: From the "don’t do this, for real" file comes the story of a 44-year-old Ohio woman who was arrested on Monday for calling 911 to report that the Chinese takeout she ordered was "not up to par for her liking." Police said Tracey McCloud’s call did not qualify as an emergency, which is why she was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of misuse of 911.
