As ‘90s kids undoubtedly remember, Kel rose to fame as everyone’s favorite orange soda aficionado on “Kenan & Kel,” as well as the teen sketch show “All That” and the big-screen comedy “Good Burger” (you know the one: “Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger, can I take your order?”).

Now, the 36-year-old is starring in the new sitcom “Game Shakers,” which tells the story of Babe (Cree Cicchino) and Kenzie (Madisyn Shipman), two 12-year-old girls who start a wildly successful gaming company in Brooklyn. Kel stars as the token grown-up: hip-hop mogul Double G, who goes after the girls for using one of his songs without permission and then ultimately forces his way into becoming a partner in the company.

Kel described his character to Entertainment Weekly as “the comedic version of artists like Kanye, Diddy, Eminem and 50 Cent,” which is definitely intriguing. Oh, and Double G also has a son named Triple G because of course he does.

In an enthusiastic Instagram announcement, Kel wrote, “The news is out!! Finally I can tell you all the BIG news and BLESSING! Im returning to Nickelodeon in new series "Game Shakers" God is good!! Thank you Jesus!!!! This show has all the comedy and energy you know me for. I cant wait for you all to see it! The kids on the show are awesomely talented!! This is a fun cast and show! Check us out this fall on Nickelodeon.”

“Game Shakers” also marks a reunion between Kel and series creator Dan Schneider, who worked on “All That,” “Kenan & Kel” and “Good Burger,” as well as newer Nickelodeon classics like “iCarly,” “Victorious,” “Sam & Cat,” “Zoey 101,” “The Amanda Show” and “Drake & Josh.”

In an interview with Variety, Schneider revealed one of the reasons he thought of Kel for the new project was because Ariana Grande — who starred on “Sam & Cat” — made him realize how beloved Kel still is.

“A couple of years ago I was writing an episode of ‘Sam & Cat.’ There was a guest star role for an eccentric rap artist and business mogul, named Peezy B,” Schneider explained. “When I was telling Ariana Grande about the episode and the role of the rap mogul, I mentioned the idea of Kel Mitchell playing the part. Ariana got crazy excited. I didn’t realize she was such a huge Kel Mitchell fan
Kel played the role and he was brilliantly funny.”

Schneider also teased a possible reunion with Kel’s former comedy partner-in-crime, Kenan Thompson, who’s returning for his 13th season of “Saturday Night Live” this fall.

“Almost nothing would excite me more than reuniting Kenan and Kel in a big way,” Schneider said. “People would go crazy to see them back together making great comedy again. It would be amazing because they’re as strong and talented as any male comedy duo that’s ever been. There’s been talk of various ways to bring Kenan and Kel back together. All I can say is, I can’t imagine anything more fun and exciting. I’m in!”

Now the only question we have is: Will Coolio do the “Game Shakers” theme song, à la “Kenan & Kel?” We’ll find out when the show premieres in September, but until then, check out this nostalgia-inducing video of Kel busting out his most infamous quotes — it’ll make you crave orange soda real, real bad.
