Son Dies While Protecting Mother From Bullet On South Side Of Chicago

Plus, the UN releases a report following last year's fighting in Gaza, and Ted Cruz returns donations linked to Charleston shooter.

The Mother Has Been Hospitalized

A 21-year-old man was reportedly killed Saturday afternoon on the South Side of Chicago while shielding his mother from a bullet. James Jones and his mother, Alicia, were on their porch around noon on Saturday when a man approached them and opened fire. “My sister just so happened to be coming out the front door,” Alicia Jones' sister, Dietra, said. “He took his body and put it on top of her body. He covered her body.”

According to Luckett, James is the third of Jones' four children who has been killed by violence in the city. Police have said the shooting is gang-related, but have not yet made any arrests.

UN Report Condemns Israel And Palestinian Militants

A new UN report has alleged “serious violations of international humanitarian law” that “may amount to war crimes” by Israel and Palestinian militants following fighting in 2014. The report found 2,251 Palestinian deaths and 18,000 homes destroyed in Gaza, where the fighting occurred. "The scale of the devastation was unprecedented,” the report said. Israel has already called the report biased.

Group Linked With Charleston Shooter Has Donated To Campaigns Of Some Republican Hopefuls

Ted Cruz will be returning some campaign donations, and Rick Santorum and Rand Paul may follow. Those three Republican presidential candidates reportedly received money from Earl Holt III, the president of the Council of Conservative Citizens. Dylann Roof, the suspect in the Charleston church shooting, lists that group's website on his own and credits some of its teachings with shaping his worldview.

"Senator Cruz believes that there is no place for racism in society," the hopeful said in a statement. "Upon learning about Mr. Holt's background and his contributions to the campaign, he immediately instructed that all of those donations be returned."
