Sorry Witches, Etsy Is Now Banning Your Spells

And, yes, hexes too.

Witches, it looks like it's about to get a whole lot harder to sell your services on the internet. Just a few years ago, eBay officially banned the sale of "advice, spells, curses, hexing, conjuring, magic, prayers, blessing services, magic potions, [and] healing sessions," according to a 2012 policy update, and since then, people have been taking their spells and hexes sales elsewhere: mainly, to Etsy.

Apparently, the e-commerce platform starting cracking down on metaphysical services or, in some cases, shut down stores without warning. One seller told The Daily Dot, “Swathes of us have now had our sales and shop views tank, and there is great distress in the metaphysical community.”

Etsy's previous rules allowed users to sell spells and hexes as long "as they fit two criteria: They didn’t guarantee results, and they produced something tangible," according to The Daily Dot. Now, their policy states, "Any metaphysical service that promises or suggests it will effect a physical change (e.g., weight loss) or other outcome (e.g., love, revenge) is not allowed, even if it delivers a tangible item."

Witches took to an Etsy forum to discuss their outrage on the recent change, and the admin clarified the new policy saying, "To be clear, this is not a ban on all metaphysical items. At Etsy, we believe in freedom of thought, expression, and religion. You may sell astrological charts, tarot readings, and other tangible objects, as long as you are not making a promise that object will effect a physical change or other outcome, such as weight loss, love, or revenge. Medical drug claims or claims of a medical cure are also not allowed."

So, sure, you can still buy some tarot cards, but it looks like you'll have to go elsewhere to cast that sex spell on your significant other.
