Producer Extraordinaire Hudson Mohawke Breaks Down His Latest Project: Watch

'Lantern' symbolizes 'the full passage of a day,' says HudMo.

Hudson Mohawke is coming at us with a full-length album, Lantern, but this release might not be what you’d expect from the producer behind major hits from the likes of Kanye West, Drake, and Lil Wayne.

“I wanted to put across all of my tastes within the one record, really," Hudmo told MTV News. "I feel like it would have been so easy to just make a record full of just bangers. I wanted to do something which was a little more satisfying for me creatively.”

He also took to social media and explained his latest, greatest work, track by track, breaking down the symbolism behind each of the different songs.

Throughout the past few months, the album's lead single, “Very First Breath” featuring Irfane, has been taking over main stages and dance floors.

For Lantern, HudMo focused on creating one fluid body of work, rather than a collection of separate pieces to make a whole.

The Brit became popular with the dance music crowd after a few releases with Lunice as the collaborative duo, TNGHT. He’s also well known as a behind-the-scenes producer to the stars, and while some of his new work still echoes his previous hip-hop and R&B stylings, there isn't a single rap track on the entire new album.

Antsy listeners can stream the entire LP via iTunes First Play ahead of its release date. Spend some time with HudMo as he takes you through a day in the life of Lantern, out June 16.
