Despite being super popular in the comics world and even getting a few gritty, hyper-violent movie adaptations himself, nobody would ever have imagined that the Punisher would fit into the mostly optimistic world of Marvel's blockbuster movies. That is, until the new "Daredevil" show proved that you can do a gritty, violent story that still links up with the main cinematic universe.

Immediately after the first season launched, fans started clamoring for the chance to see the Punisher make an appearance. Heck, even former showrunner Steven S. Deknight said he wanted to see the infamous vigilante go toe to toe with Matt Murdock next season.

And now, it's official. Meet your new Punisher: Jon Bernthal, who you might remember from his time on "The Walking Dead."

Bernthal will join Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson and Rosario Dawson in the second season of the show -- along with what we're guessing is a LOT more bullets, judging from the new logo art:
