Azealia Banks Landed Her First Starring Role In A Feature Film

She's playing an aspiring rapper.

Azealia Banks' music career may still be young, but she's already branching out into new horizons.

The Harlem native will star in "Coco," an upcoming film that's scheduled to start shooting this week, according to Deadline.

Banks will play Coco -- she is the star, after all -- and the movie will be directed by RZA. In addition to the Wu-Tang titan and Broke With Expensive Taste rapper, a few other hip-hop notables are involved: Both Common (as her mentor) and Jill Scott (as a professor) will reportedly appear in the film.

The site says the flick will have "a bit of '8 Mile' edge to it" -- referring, of course, to the semi-autobiographical that movie Eminem starred in last decade -- as it tells the tale of an aspiring MC from Brooklyn. On the other side of those aspirations, though, are her parents' dreams that she finish college. Banks' character is later drawn to spoken word while in school and working on her skills on the mic.

No word yet on when to expect it in theaters, but since it's just starting to film now, we're likely going to have to wait a while.
