Out of all the dozens of wickedly talented performers in the smash sequel “Pitch Perfect 2,” one of the most impressive scene-stealers was Hailee Steinfeld, who played newly-minted Barden Bella Emily. The Academy Award-nominated actress proved she’s a total triple threat, wowing us with a beautiful voice that she further flaunted in a stripped-down version of Jessie J’s powerful ballad “Flashlight.”
Luckily, this isn't the last we’ll be hearing from Hailee — the 18-year-old recently inked a deal with Republic Records. She’s reportedly hard at work on her debut release alongside an all-star team of producers and songwriters, including Captain Cuts, The Futuristics, Harvey Mason, Mattman & Robin, and MXM.
In a statement, Republic Records executive vice president Charlie Walk said, “The moment that we met Hailee, we found her commitment to music inspiring. She has the vision, natural talent and dedication to compete at the highest level. We are thrilled to be a part of her musical journey.”
The label’s co-founder and chief executive Monte Lipman added, “Hailee is a multi-talented artist and among her many gifts, her voice is both unique and undeniable. It’s exciting to have her join the Republic family.”
Suffice to say, we’re definitely eager to hear what Hailee has planned for her debut album. After all, she has arguably the best mentor in the business: her good pal Taylor Swift. Hailee’s already gotten a taste of the music video world, thanks to her guest role as “Trinity” in Taylor’s epic “Bad Blood” clip, and hopefully these two will team up again. We need more of this fierceness:
