'The Flash' Star Rick Cosnett Teases The 'Shocking' Final Two Episodes

Ricky and the flash.

Rick Cosnett may be tied to a chair -- or at least his character, Eddie Thawne, on "The Flash" currently is -- but that doesn't mean he can't pick up the phone. With only two episodes left in the show's first season, Thawne is about to literally (and figuratively) break out in a big way.

To find out more, we talked with Cosnett about Thawne's relationship with Iris (Candice Patton), playing with fan expectations, and whether his former "The Vampire Diaries" co-star Nina Dobrev might make her way to Central City:

MTV News: Things are building at a crazy pace towards the finale... So what’s it like to spend the last couple of episodes tied to a chair?

Rick Cosnett: [Laughs] Well, you know, so far it’s been really fun! Working with Tom Cavanagh is such a laugh... He’s a joke a minute, and he’s such a great actor -- and we haven’t gotten to work together yet, so I’m really, really happy about it.

We’re pretty much the only two characters who haven’t really interacted... Maybe they kept us apart for a reason, but it’s really paid off. I can tease you that I may not be in the chair for the whole thing. He gets to have a really cool trajectory after; this whole experience really changes him.

MTV: So we’re not gonna have the post-episode finale tag, cutting back to Eddie just still sitting on the chair going, "Hey guys! Guys?"

Cosnett: [Laughs] That’s a good idea, you should have pitched that! Damn it!

MTV: Seriously though, the position that he’s in right now is normally where you'd expect Iris to be... That she would be damseled, but instead you’re getting Eddie damseled in turn. Was this an example where the writers were trying to positively subvert the genre?

Cosnett: I think they were really clever in that they see that Eddie is a big commodity. Wells has to keep Eddie alive! But he sort of also hates everyone. He keeps me barely breathing and he’s got this whole master plan -- but they’re very clever to put me in there just because of the way things will play out even before the end of the season.

MTV: It's great seeing them together because fan expectations were that you were going to turn out to be Reverse Flash... What's it been like playing with fans like that?

Cosnett: It’s been really fun! Everyone was expecting us to play him as just a bit of a d--k. A bit of someone who had a little bit too much self confidence. Who was a little bit in love with himself. But we really tried to make him as loveable as possible, so that there could be this wonderful tension between who Iris was gonna choose. We’ve put up a really strong case for Eddie at the moment.

MTV: One of my favorite moments in the last episode -- beyond the giant murderous gorilla, of course -- was when Wells tells Eddie that in the future Iris West is actually Iris West-Allen. You had a really wonderful reaction and a wonderful, very silent emotional reaction in that scene. How does this revelation affect him going forward?

Cosnett: It really messes up his whole trajectory, and really changes his life. [He's] trying to digest all this information, and also it’s very traumatizing. He has to decide what he wants to do with this information.

I guess it’s all gonna be in his attitude towards the future. We’ve played with time so much, so there’s a wonderful chance there for Eddie to change it. I wish I could say what happens -- but that’s gonna be really shocking.

MTV: Before I let you go, you had such a great rapport with Nina Dobrev on "The Vampire Diaries." Now that she's leaving, what are the chances you're going to get her over to "The Flash..." And would you want her to be a superhero, or a supervillain?

Cosnett: I would say 150%! She loves me that much! I would definitely put her in as a super villain. I also thought think we should have gotten together, because she plays evil really well -- and she’s just do a really hot, badass supervillain.
