Is Justin Bieber Being 'Controlled' By His Fans? Diplo Thinks So

Diplo's also trying to understand Drake's 'Know Yourself.'

Diplo says Justin Bieber has some obstacles to climb with his new music.

“It feels like he’s always working against himself,” Diplo told Billboard. "He’s a cool guy and into cool music. But I think he’s controlled by the way his fans are.”

According to Diplo, Bieber should do more songs like their Jack Ü collaboration “Where Are U Now.” "I feel like this song is what he should be,” he said. "Bieber’s so talented, he needs to just be himself and be by himself and work on his craft. He has a lot of people around; he has to find the right team to help him make something that’s going to stand alone.”

Diplo has actually heard some of Bieber’s new music. “There’s a couple of good records,” he said, noting that he and Skrillex plan on working with JB this summer.

While he creates new music, Diplo says he’s also got his ear to what’s out. One of the songs he can’t stop listening to, for instance, is Drake’s “Know Yourself.” "It’s the biggest song in the club,” Diplo said. "I’m trying to figure out why. Everyone’s talking about ‘woes.' I’m trying to figure out what a ‘woe' is.”

He was then told that it could be an acronym for “Working On Excellence.” "Oh, so people who are working on excellence?” he added. "I don’t think a lot of his friends worked on much excellence, because I don’t know, who are those guys? I think they’re working on his excellence. But he’s pretty excellent."
