"The Vampire Diaries" might be skipping ahead in its final moments.
Per EW, the season six finale will end with a flash forward. Although it hasn't been confirmed how much time will pass in the flash forward, our guess is that this will give us a glimpse into Elena Gilbert's (Nina Dobrev) life sans the Salvatores. (No, YOU'RE the one crying at your desk rn.)
Will she be living a normal, human life someplace new? We hope so. And we wouldn't be too upset if Elena's flash-forward featured a surprise appearance from Matt Donovan because TBH, Mystic Falls is no longer safe for Matty Blue Eyes. We think it's about time he got the hell out of Dodge.
The flash forward could also show how our Mystic Falls favorites are coping without Elena. The last time "TVD" skipped a few months was when Bonnie and Damon "died," but don't worry, we doubt Elena will suffer the same fate. After all, "The Vampire Diaries" has been Elena's story for six seasons, and there's no way the Powers That Be would kill her off in the season's final moments.
Death, of course, is always possible, especially on a show like "The Vampire Diaries," but it wouldn't do any justice to our heroine, or Dobrev.
Elena's "six season journey" has to end with her taking the Cure and being human again. Plus, Dobrev's "human Elena" attire on her final day of shooting "TVD" -- straight hair, henley shirt, jean skirt -- might be a major clue that she gets her happy (human) ending.
