7 Secrets We Learned About 'Star Wars Rebels' Season 2

Hard to see, the Dark Side is.

For the past few days, Star Wars: Celebration has been in full-on "The Force Awakens" mode, but today (April 18) was all about a little TV show called "Star Wars Rebels," the animated series that bridges the gap between "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope" -- the "Dark Times," as Obi-Wan would say.

In the morning, fans gathered in the Anaheim Convention Center for a sneak peek at the second season of the animated series. Joining the panel were showrunner Dave Filoni and voice stars Freddie Prinze Jr. (Kanan), Vanessa Marshall (Hera), Taylor Gray (Ezra), Steve Blum (Zeb) and Tiya Sircar (Sabine) -- plus some very special guests!

Then, in the evening, attendees were treated to an early screening of the "Rebels" premiere, giving us our first look at what's to come for Kanan, Ezra and the rest of the Ghost Crew. Here's all the glorious secrets we learned from both the premiere and the new -- AWESOME! -- Season 2 trailer (above).

WARNING: Some SPOILERS from "Star Wars Rebels" Season 1 follow...

Captain Rex Lives!

Whoa... WHOA! That's right, not only is Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein) joining the "Rebels" crew, but so is "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" favorite Captain Rex! In the new "Rebels" teaser, we see a grizzled Rex (voiced again by Dee Bradley Baker!) and a band of other rogue Clones, traveling in a modded Clone Wars tank and joining the Ghost crew on an adventure.

"I wanna see what this guy's still got in him," Baker said at the panel, and rest assured, he added, "We're going to see it!"

Filoni also gave a tease of what fans can expect from Rex's return: "We love Rex... Kanan not so much."

Ahsoka May Confront Vader

We've known since the season finale that Ahsoka Tano (voiced again by Ashley Eckstein!) would be teaming up with the Ghost crew, but a question still remains: Will Ahsoka confront Darth Vader? Both she and the one-time Anakin Skywalker were thick as thieves in "The Clone Wars," but now? Yeah, no.

While Filoni obviously couldn't say too much on the topic, he did note, "Ahsoka and Vader is a topic that George [Lucas] and I discussed... Let's just say it's part of the story that we have to tell you" -- maybe as soon as the premiere!

Hondo's Back!

Disney/Lucasfilm

Speaking of "The Clone Wars," everybody's favorite Weequay pirate, Hondo Ohnaka, is also making his triumphant return in "Star Wars Rebels." While we don't yet know how the infamous scalawag plays into Season 2, Filoni did confirm that Jim Cummings will be coming back to voice the character.

Return of the Inquisitors

As much as it pains us to say it, the Inquisitor as we know him is dead. The good news is, we have two new Inquisitors coming in to replace him. The first you can see in the image above, giving a menacing grin. The other is... well, we don't know who she is since she wears a mask, but some fans have speculated she could be Barriss Offee (another "The Clone Wars" character) or even Mara Jade. Time will tell if either theory is correct.

A Recurring Character Will Die

As if "Rebels" wasn't intense enough, the premiere episode of Season 2 marks the death of a recurring character. Rebel or Imperial, you ask? You'll have to wait and see!

Kanan and Ezra Will Fight Vader

The final moments of the new trailer were probably the most exciting, as we got a taste of our heroes going up against Darth Vader. What's even more exciting is that this scene goes down in the premiere episode, along with many other of Vader's trailer scenes. The suspense!

"As you wish."

With Vader now pursuing the Ghost crew, it's a given he was assigned to the Lothal System by the Emperor -- who we've yet to see on the show -- but in the new trailer, Palpatine's voice is distinctly heard ordering Vader to hunt down the Rebels and destroy them. Could this be a sign of the Emperor also appearing in "Rebels" at some point? Hmm...
