Sadly, "The Fault In Our Stars" stud Ansel Elgort wasn't physically present at the Nokia Theatre in L.A. for the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday (Apr. 12) because he's off making more movies and other important stuff.

And that means we didn't get to see some epic stage smooch between him and co-star Shailene Woodley -- which could rival the generations of Best Kiss acceptance "speeches" that have melted us to our very cores. Sigh.

But the good news is, he did make up for it in a very special -- and quite appropriate for the digital age -- way: via some super sweet social networking.

See, Ansel was totally there in virtual spirit, and he wanted the world, and especially his lovely high waisted pants-rockin' co-star, to know exactly how he felt about the honor.

First of all, he timed this Twitter selfie perfectly to ensure that Shai was smiling at him on her way up to accept the prize solo.

And then he listened intently while she gave her umpteenth round of thanks for the night.

('Cause, spoiler alert: She won everything.)

We're not done. Ansel also gave a thumbs up and a toothy smile to his adoring Instagram aud.

Because duh. You thank the fans. Always.

Sweetness.

And then, later on, when "The Fault In Our Stars" also went on to collect the biggest prize of the night, Movie of the Year, he went 100% ballistic on Instagram video. As you do.

In some ways, it's actually better than doing it in person. Because now all Ansel's nerdiest nerdfighters know exactly how jazzed he was, #NoFilter, to get all these accolades.

And Shailene was free to plant some smooches on this guy, who may or may not be John Green's Vlogbrother and actual brother Hank Green.
