Given the tremendous success of "Furious 7" -- which just cruised past $500 million at the global box office -- an eighth installment of the "Fast" franchise is a no-brainer for Universal. But when can we expect no. 8? And will producer-star Vin Diesel be able to keep the family together after Paul Walker's tragic exit?

Last year, Universal chairman Donna Langley told The Hollywood Reporter that the plan was to make three more "Fast" films, and that most likely remains the plan for now. However, "Fast & Furious 8" still has to find a director and a plot before Vin and co. race to the starting line.

Nothing has been confirmed by Universal yet, but here's everything we actually know about "Fast & Furious 8."

No release date has been set.

As of now, a release date for the eighth film has yet to be set by Universal. Once the studio nails down a date and finds a director, Diesel, the franchise patriarch, works with longtime "Fast" scribe Chris Morgan, producer Neal Moritz and the director to come up with a story. (And this one has to TOP the crazy-awesomeness of "Furious 7," BTW.) So until Universal sets a date, a "Fast & Furious 8" doesn't officially exist. Don't be too bummed, #FastFamily. Per THR, an announcement could be made as early as the 2015 CinemaCon convention in late April.

We don't have a title either.

"Furious 8?" "Fast & Furious 8?" "Fast 8?" "The F8st & The Furious?" "Fast & Furious: NYC Taffic?" "Fast EIGHT?" We have no effing clue, but whatever it is, we'll obviously still watch it. What's in a name, anyway?

Vin wants to set it in New York.

Dom and Letty take Manhattan! Though "Fast & Furious 8" hasn't been officially announced, Vin is going full-speed ahead with his idea to bring the "Fast" franchise to the east coast. During an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," he teased that an eighth installment will be set in New York. And Kurt Russell, who joined the cast in "Furious 7" as government agent -- and Belgian ale enthusiast -- Mr. Nobody, will apparently have a significant role in numero ocho. "Kurt Russell came in for this movie," Vin told Kimmel in March. "But we really hired him because of a story that follows this that takes place in New York."

And Vin isn't the only member of the familia excited to take LA's top street racers to NYC. Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Letty "Ride or Die" Toretto (née Ortiz), revealed in a recent Twitter Q&A that she'd love to race in the Big Apple. "I think racing in New York would be fun 3 am west side highway." Whelp. We've seen what Dom and co. did to Los Angeles, so we can only imagine the kind of "Avengers"-sized destruction they'd serve up in NYC.

The Rock might not return.

Nobody panic, but Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson, who joined the ensemble in "Fast Five" and quickly became a fan-favorite as DSS agent Luke Hobbs, doesn't have to sign on for an eighth film if he doesn't want to. The Rock's deal with Universal is on a film-by-film basis, so if for some UNFORESEEABLE reason Johnson doesn't like the script, he can opt out. However, we don't see this happening anytime soon. When Johnson's on screen, he chews through scenery like it's NBD -- and the audience eats it up. Plus, he's an integral part in those huge action-packed moments the "Fast" franchise has now become known for.

But Luke Evans and Jason Statham might!

The end of "Furious 7" seems to hint at a possible continuation of the Shaw saga. Luke Evans was prominent baddie Owen Shaw in "Fast & Furious 6," while Jason Statham picked up where he left off in "Furious 7," as Owen's "big bad brother" Deckard Shaw. Since both brothers are seemingly alive in the "Fast" cannon, we wouldn't be surprised if they show up in "Fast 8" -- or even a later installment -- for one final showdown with Team Toretto. Plus, per THR, Evans has one more option with Universal, which makes another "Fast" appearance more likely.

Helen Mirren is game.

Since it first hit the gas in 2001, the "Fast & Furious" franchise has amassed a loyal, and incredibly diverse, following -- including Dame Helen Mirren. In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, Mirren professed her undying love for the high-speed franchise and its star.

"My great ambition is to be in a 'Fast and Furious' movie," she said. "I so want to be a mad driver in a 'Fast and Furious' movie. My claim to fame is I always do my own driving -- I was on 'Top Gear,' and I did [my lap] in a very good time. I keep putting it out there, and they never ask me. I'll be in 'Fast and Furious 8.' I have to say Vin Diesel is brilliant."

When ET Online caught up with Diesel at the premiere of "Furious 7," not only was he into the idea, but he also had a few ideas of who Mirren could play. "There are so many options!" he said. "You've got Nathalie Emmanuel's mother. You've got, of course, the matriarch to the Shaw brothers!" Well, that escalated quickly, but this idea sounds awesome. DEAR GROOT, PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN.
