One of Your Favorite 'Doctor Who' Stars Is Now a DC Superhero

The "Arrow"/"The Flash" spin-off has also cast a Hawkgirl.

Love Oliver Queen and Barry Allen? Then you're probably pretty excited for the upcoming "Arrow"/"The Flash" spin-off, which already boasts an impressive cast of Brandon Routh, Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, and Caity Lotz. Now, the show is adding two new superheroes to the mix! But who?

Yup, "Doctor Who" alum Arthur Darvill will take on the role of Rip Hunter, who's been described in casting breakdowns as a “Han Solo-esque" time traveler with a secret mission from the future, the seriousness of which he disguises from his fellow heroes with his roguish wit and charm. Pretty brilliant casting, considering Darvill has plenty of experience running about through time and space as the companion Rory Williams. Let's hope Rip Hunter isn't as prone to dying all the time like Rory was, though!

In addition, the spin-off has also cast young Broadway actress Ciara Reneé as Kendra "Hawkgirl" Saunders. You probably know Hawkgirl best from the 2001-2006 "Justice League" cartoon series, but Kendra will be a little different than that version of the character: rather than being from an alien planet, she's actually the latest reincarnation of an ancient warrior who can grow wings from her back when provoked. Let's hope she also gets to wield Hawkgirl's iconic and very kick-ass mace, too.

The spin-off show doesn't yet have a title, but will most likely air during next midseason in early 2016. "Arrow" creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg are on board to produce, along with Marc Guggenheim and Sarah Schechter.

Plus, there's still one unnamed DC hero left to cast. Maybe Caity Lotz -- whose character on "Arrow," Sara Lance, was recently killed -- will play a new role instead?
