Hey Kendrick, Who Is LoveDragon?

LoveDragon's Butterfly beats have us asking serious questions.

Kendrick Lamar has always been a thought-provoking lyricist, but on his latest LP, To Pimp a Butterfly, the Compton, California MC flexed some serious musical muscle, fusing hip-hop with funk and jazz.

Of course, Dot didn't do it alone. Notable producers like Sounwave, Thundercat, Flying Lotus, Terrace Martin, Tae Beast, Boi-1da and Rahki all pitched in. But when we scanned the the TPAB's liner notes, we came across one name that we didn't recognize: LoveDragon.

First off all, LoveDragon is an awesome name; secondly, he or she is quite talented.

On "How Much a Dollar Cost," LD supplies Kendrick with neck-snapping drums, a somber piano melody and heavenly horn stabs. The track perfectly sets the stage for Dot to tell us about his encounter with God.

On "You Ain't Gotta Lie (Momma Said)," LoveDragon teams with Sounwave and Terrace Martin and together they take a jazzier approach.

We asked around, reached out to a TDE label rep and did a google search which turned up a DJBooth.net post that lists all 71 artists on Butterfly. It doesn't appear that we are the only ones who are asking the question.

LoveDragon did earn a production credit last year on SZA's "Sobriety," so maybe LoveDragon is one of TDE's many in-house producers.

We also found that Josef Leimberg, who earned songwriting and vocal credit on Butterfly, has been tweeting and retweeting about LoveDragon, too. Some people seem to think LoveDragon is Dr. Dre's new alias.

While others believe it's Terrace Martin and Josef Leimberg.

We're still not sure, so remind us to ask Kendrick when we see him.
