Jared Leto Might Be Playing A Big, Fat Joker In 'Suicide Squad'

Batman's biggest bad guy is about to get even bigger.

As he prepares to play the Joker in "Suicide Squad," Jared Leto isn't just preparing to chew on scenery — he's preparing to chew on everything in the fridge.

In an interview with Billboard, Leto revealed that one of the many ways he's getting ready to become the new cinematic Clown Prince of Crime is by eating everything in sight. At least, he's trying.

"I'm trying to gain weight," Leto told his interviewer, while munching on vegan tacos. "It means I have to eat every couple of hours — and I'm terrible at eating a lot."

What the what? The Joker is many things, but an incessant eater he is not. Batman's nemesis is typically tall, lanky and physically unimposing — aside from the whole nightmare-clown aesthetic, of course. The Joker has been heavy-set in a few forms, including on the cartoon series "The Batman," as well as the video game "Batman: Arkham Asylum," though in that case, he had… enhancements.

Don't think we're seeing Titan Joker anytime soon, but hey, stranger things have happened.

Why is Leto bulking up for Joker? Possible SPOILERS ahead, as rumors suggest that Joker spends much of his time behind bars in "Suicide Squad." If that's true, maybe he's taking a cue from Batman and turning his body into a temple; it's a productive use of prison time, at least!

Or maybe it's just a way for Leto to differentiate himself from Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger's takes on Joker. Who knows? What we do know is that Leto is very pumped to play this cackling maniac, describing him to Billboard as a "beautiful disaster of a character." Sounds about right to us.
