Jay Z May Have Embarrassed Himself At The SNL 40 After-Party

Don't partner with Hov on baseball trivia night.

Jay Z may have had an ownership stake in the Brooklyn Nets for a while, and he may he sit so close at NBA games that Knicks and Nets and NBA All-Stars can give him high fives, but it sounds like he should brush up on his baseball knowledge.

According to retired New York Yankee pitcher David Cone, at the recent after-party for SNL 40, Hov confused one hefty pitching great for another.

Funniest story of the afterparty was when Jay Z thought @BoomerWells33 was Curt Shilling and asked him about bloody sock

See, it seems Jigga mixed up David Wells -- a pitcher whose two-decade career ended in 2007, after playing for teams like the Yankees and Boston Red Sox -- with Curt Schilling -- a pitcher whose two-decade career ended in 2007, after playing for teams like the Philadelphia Phillies and Red Sox.

The "bloody sock" comment that Jay apparently made was in reference to a 2004 American League Championship Series game during which Schilling, pitching for the Red Sox, beat the Yankees; his ankle was injured, though, and by the end of the game, his white sock was visibly red and bloody. It became an iconic moment.

Wells, for his part, didn't seem to mind.

@dcone36 im still in shock.

Even tho he thought I was schilling he's still one cool dude. And schilling must be one good looking dude. (NOT)!!!!!!!!

Neither, it seems, did Schilling -- though it looks like he took a playful jab at Wells.

@TylerDNorton @dcone36 @BoomerWells33 Ouch....

Oh, and in case you're curious, below, on the left, is a picture of David Wells; on the right, Curt Schilling.

Don't worry Jay (which I'm sure you were), we won't hold it against you.
