Lorde is never *not* doing things her own way, which is why we all should have just known her get-up for the Golden Globes would be totally, entirely, unequivocally her. Sure, it's the first-ever time she's been to this awards show, and yeah, she's got a big-deal nomination going for her tonight, but if you thought she'd show up in a fancy ballgown, you obviously aren't a die-hard Lorde disciple.
We can just see it now: Her stylist was all, "What kind of gown do you want to wear?" and she was like, "Nah." Probably, right?? Because instead of a fancy dress, she went with high-waisted menswear trousers and a very Working Girl longline blazer, then finished it off with a super age-approps cropped corset that made the whole thing exceedingly young and cool and, again, so very Lorde. It was a custom design by Narciso Rodriguez because Lorde does not do off-the-rack. Lorde does Lorde.
Some fancy bling, a bold ruby lip, and an uncharacteristically sleek ponytail took her usual menswear into a red carpet-worthy affair. Now all she needs is a trophy to complete the look, but her outfit wins everything, so whatever.
