On April 14, "Mortal Kombat" is back on consoles with "Mortal Kombat X" from NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game takes place 25 years after 2011's "Mortal Kombat" and features all the stunning brutality you'd expect from the massively popular fighting series.

And in the lead up to the highly anticipated release, DC Comics is releasing a prequel comic book series featuring fan-favorite characters including Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, as well as the next generation of Kombatants.

Today (January 12), MTV News is exclusively offering your first look at "Mortal Kombat X #1" which hits stores on January 14. Written by Shawn Kittelson, with art by Dexter Soy and covers by Ivan Reis, you can snag the series Digital First every Sunday, followed by a print run in stores.
