Meghan Trainor may have had one of the biggest hits of 2014, but just because she's riding high on the charts doesn't mean she keeps her cool around her fellow pop stars.

Especially when that pop star is Jennifer Lopez.

Meghan, whose debut album, Title, drops January 13, met J.Lo while attending the American Music Awards. And instead of talking about how they were big supporters of the year of the booty, Meghan fan-girled out, like most of us would.

"I was starstuck the whole time. It was the first one, like, 'This is epic,'" Meghan told "Entertainment Tonight." "I told her that 'Selena,' her movie, was the reason I wanted to be a singer and then I asked her a bunch of questions. I was like, 'How do you have boyfriends in this industry?'"

Jennifer is no stranger to dating in the public eye -- remember Diddy, Ben Affleck (Bennifer) and Marc Anthony -- so what wise words did she have for the up-and-comer?

"She just said, 'Be very picky,'" Meghan said.

Meghan got her first taste at the tabloids speculating about her love life recently, when it was reported that she was dating Nick Jonas' assistant, Cory Anderson, after he posted this pic.

"He's a good friend. He's great," she said of Anderson. "On the Jingle Ball tour, I met a lot of good people and good friends, and he's great. He's cool. I would love to have a boyfriend. A boyfriend sounds great. I didn't realize the whole world wanted to know about it, so I don't know how to deal with that, but I'll learn."
