'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Has Its Official Rating, And It's 'Unusual'
Mr. Grey will see you now, but only if you're above the age of 17 or escorted by a guardian.
Yes, the Motion Picture Association of America has officially given "Fifty Shades of Grey" an R rating, but not for the reasons you might expect. When assigning a rating, the MPAA gives a concise list of reasons. You've seen them, your usual "adult language," "sexual content," "brief violence," all that. The explanation for "Fifty Shades," however, is a bit...unusual.
"Strong sexual content," check, but look closer: as a subset, "unusual behavior" is listed. Sorry, bondage enthusiasts, looks like the traditionally conservative MPAA is officially othering you. To which we, and the legendary Tom Jones, have this to say:
