13 'TRL' Throwbacks To Help You Ring In 2015

These tracks were lighting up 'TRL' before they blew up #TBT.

Now that you've got one foot in the new year, take a step back to the first #TBT of 2015 with some of our favorite 'TRL' jams.

Among our "Total Request Live" choices are these throwback hits from a simpler time, when Beyoncé was still a "Single Lady," Justin Bieber was a "Baby," and Katy Perry had just "Kissed A Girl." Here's why these 13 favorites made the list:

"Kiss Kiss," Chris Brown, featuring T-Pain - 2007

Before Chris Brown was a hit-making juggernaut of questionable life decisions, he was in a high school dance music video hanging out with T-Pain, a successful (and supremely talented!) fusion of Autobot technology and dreadlocks.

"Goodies," Ciara, featuring T.I. and Jazze Pha - 2004

Back in her Princess of Crunk days, Ciara rode around like an A-town gladiator atop a Chevy SS chariot. More than a decade later, we're still willing to let her take us down.

"Be With You," Enrique Iglesias - 2000

Noted sex symbol and mole harbinger Enrique got with Shannon Elizabeth, former Playboy model and the first onscreen object of Jason Biggs' late-'90s affection that wasn't a baked good ("McDonald's or homemade?").

"Since U Been Gone," Kelly Clarkson - 2004

Here's the thing, we started out friends... it never works, Kelly! Good thing we also had "Breakaway" and "Because of You" to get through our other breakups friendships that year.

"Pretty Boy Swag," Soulja Boy - 2010

This song creeps in with the ominous plod of a thunderstorm alarm clock. And whether you knew it or not, Soulja Boy just got stuck in your head for the next five years.

"Rock Your Body," Justin Timberlake - 2003

The key to being sexy is being so smooth no one notices. Here, JT drops a sex jam that your grandma would get up and dance to at a barbecue.

"Womanizer," Britney Spears - 2008

Brit belongs in the Circus –- as a fortune teller! She was singing this song to David Lucado way back in 2008. Boy, don't try to front, she knows just just what you are, are, are.

"The Way You Move," Outkast, featuring Sleepy Brown - 2003

"Trunk rattlin' like two midgets in the back seat wrasslin'" has to be the most beautiful line in the English language not written by Shakespeare.

"A Thousand Miles," Vanessa Carlton - 2000

Vanessa said she'd walk a thousand miles, but we bet she can still be spotted riding around on the back of that truck playing her piano (probably with a pumpkin spice latte).

"Ignition (Remix)," R. Kelly - 2003

Toot toots and beep beeps aside, this song can, without fail, start a dance party anywhere and anytime. Even a hotel lobby, which is usually a pretty unturnt spot. Salute.

"Hollaback Girl," Gwen Stefani - 2005

Produced alongside The Neptunes' Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, this minimalist offering from Stefani's first solo album got stuck in your head even if you weren't talking sh-- or didn't think that Gwen would hear it.

"Pony," Ginuwine - 1996

Fun fact #1: in the 4 minutes and 14 seconds this song lasts, that synth bassy throat voice says "yeah" approximately 200 times.

Fun fact #2: there's a good chance that synth bassy throat voice saying "yeah" was a major part of one (or both) of your parents' stag nights.

"Always Be My Baby," Mariah Carey - 1996

While it didn't showcase the diva's reported five-octave range, the 21st single of Mariah Carey's career did manage to define your summer camp flings and middle school dances.
