'The Interview' Might Get Released In North Korea Via... Balloons?

Balloons!

Everyone’s familiar with the concept of a Hollywood film having a theatrical release, but have you ever heard of a movie getting a balloon release?

Well, get ready to add a new one to your “Now I’ve heard of everything” list.

If Sony Pictures decides to release its cancelled film, “The Interview,” on DVD, an activist group plans to include copies of the controversial Seth Rogen and James Franco motion picture about the assassination of Kim Jong-Un into North Korea in its next balloon drop.

“If we can legally obtain copies of ‘The Interview,’ we want to send as many copies as possible,” Human Rights Foundation founder Thor Halvorssen told CNNMoney.

Halvorssen’s HRF has teamed up with Fighters for a Free North Korea, which is chaired by North Korean defector Park Sang Hak, to drop balloons filled with banned items into the country to help its citizens gain access to different perspectives.

Previously dropped contraband items include chocolate, copies of Bravo’s “Real Housewives” and USB drives with offline version of Wikipedia.

“Remember, there is no Internet in North Korea,” Halvorssen said. “There are no phone lines that can reach other countries. It’s life known as the ‘hermit kingdom’.”

According to Halvorssen, “The Interview” actors are encouraging the move.

The group is eyeing January for its next balloon drop.
