The World's Biggest Sneakerhead Was Arrested For Stealing $1 Million In Lebron James Merchandise

Sadly, the enterprising Memphis man was caught just a few miles down the highway.

There’s sneakerheads, and then there’s sneakerheads. Let’s take Charles Jennings, for example. He tried to steal 7,500 pairs of unreleased Lebron James 12 sneakers from the Memphis warehouse where he worked, enough to give every member of the NBA 16 new pairs of sneakers for Christmas. Of course, holiday gift-giving wasn't his intention: with sneakers frequently going for triple digits on eBay, he stood to make a substantial profit.

“He stole a trailer full of LeBron James tennis shoes, which was valued somewhere between $700,000 and $1 million,” said local sheriff Chief Mark Dunbar in a statement to Fox.

Police say Jennings’ plan for his big heist consisted of nothing more than using his warehouse ID to drive the truck off the lot.

He didn’t get far: Memphis is a major distribution hub for global companies, which means cargo theft is handled by a crack team of FBI, U.S. Marshall's Service, Shelby County Sheriff's Office, and Memphis Police Department members. Jennings was captured in his truck with the goods a few miles down the highway.

"With the size of that shipment, the odds are not very good you're going to be able to get away with it," explained Dunbar.

Still, the task force was only able to locate 6,800 of the 7,500 stolen sneakers. This might be a good time to check eBay for a Christmas gift for that special sneakerhead in your life.
