'It's my responsibility as an actor,' Nick said.

It's pretty safe to admit that lot of us first tuned into "Kingdom" just to get a glimpse of Nick Jonas' rock-hard abs.

But then, we totally fell in love with the story, and his intense character, Nate. The DirecTV show wrapped up its first season, and, during the Dec. 10 finale, it was revealed that the up-and-coming MMA fighter is gay.

The character development may have come as a surprise to some viewers, but, for Nick, he knew exactly how Season 1 of the show was going to play out.

"Byron [Balasco, "Kingdom" creator] told me before shooting began,” Jonas told BuzzFeed. “Everyone at Kingdom was really transparent about the character and some of the things the character would go through. And in my prep work, I wanted to be aware so I could properly tell this story.”

Balasco also added that Nick's character won't be coming out to his friends and family in the next season, but it will show his struggle in "an environment [MMA fighting] that would be, perhaps, extra challenging for a gay man."

And the "Jealous" singer is completely up for the challenge. The show has been known for its graphic sex scenes, and Nick says that if he had to shoot a gay love scene he would "absolutely" do it.

“I have trust in Byron and the writing team to tell these stories in a really honest and grounded way and it’s my responsibility as an actor to be that person and tell those stories the best I can,” he said. “So, absolutely I will do all I need to do.”

He later added, "The biggest thing I’ve learned through this is that you can’t have any fear when you’re acting. Any ounce of fear will show. You just have to become that person and live that life. I love that process and pushing myself in that way. I found that really rewarding in the end … I’m absolutely willing to go anywhere the story needs to go.”

His family supports him 100% in this role, including brothers Kevin and Joe.

“Their reaction was incredible,” Nick said. “My family was really proud of me for getting this role and they were excited for me to tell this story -- especially because it’s so important.”
