Ariana Grande And Jessie J May Not Have ‘Agreed’ On A ‘Boy Is Mine’ Remake After All

Wait, I thought this was definitely happening?

So the boy is not Ariana Grande and Jessie J's?

Though it was recently reported that the "Bang Bang" co-stars would team up to remake the Brandy and Monica hit "The Boy is Mine," turns out it's not happening, and that makes me sad.

“No, it’s not true, neither of us have agreed,” Jessie told The Mirror on the red carpet of the AMAs. “Sadly, people are believing it. I spoke to Brandy and I was like, ‘No, it’s not happening.' Monica and Brandy are the best.”

This is a bit surprising since Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, who produced the original song, was the one who revealed that he had tapped the 2014 VMA performers to record a new version.

The producer explained to HitsDailyDouble that he was doing this "special project" to celebrate 20 years in the industry.

“Next year is my 20-year anniversary and I’m doing a very special project,” he explained. “[With] some originals as well as reimagined hits. So for example, I’ll do the ‘The Boy Is Mine’ with Ariana and Jessie J.”

Even though we won't be hearing that amazing rendition from Ariana and Jessie J, who performed together, along with Nicki Minaj at Sunday's AMAs, we may still get one from Sam Smith, who Jerkins said is on board for the project.

“Sam is doing ‘It’s Not Right But It’s Okay’ by Whitney Houston, which [he] told me was the song that made him want to sing,” Jerkins added. “When I asked him if he’d be a part of this project he was like, ‘No one else can do that song but me!’ This is a project I’m really looking forward to.”
