Don't Worry, Marvel: The Internet Found Your Captain Marvel

And it's Natalie Dormer.

Yesterday (November 17), actress Natalie Dormer took part in a reddit AMA tied to her new movie, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1," which you may have heard of at some point.

Anyway, Dormer answered a ton of questions and was really cool throughout, except she did skip one question that a good number of people wanted her to answer.

It's certainly an interesting omission, but honestly, there's no conclusion we can make from it other than actors don't like talking about prospective roles. Has Marvel reached out to Dormer about playing Carol Danvers? Who knows, but either way, it doesn't do her any good to talk about it on reddit.

The reddit question does bring up another point, however. There is fan support for Dormer getting the part, which despite how naïve it sounds, does matter.

Marvel will first and foremost satisfy its own interests. It's why we don't get the straight adaptations of comic book storylines that fans often request and why the studio could easily ignore Dormer's previous "Captain America" appearance if it wanted to. The company is smart in its creative and business decisions, but those are made with the end goal of pleasing fans.

And from a business standpoint, Dormer isn't a bad choice either. She's got just the right amount of exposure. She's on the geek show of the moment (that would be "Game Of Thrones"), and her film career has been limited to prominent supporting roles in big movies. (This will keep her price tag low, always a plus with Marvel.)

We will have to wait and see if Dormer becomes Marvel's first lead superheroine, but for now, I think it's safe to say that she has a pretty good shot.

"Captain Marvel" is scheduled to hit theaters on July 6, 2018.
