Charli XCX Is Basically Scrooge McDuck In 'Gold Coins'
So Charli XCX has basically written the anti-"Royals" with her new Sucker track, "Gold Coins" -- a jam that extolls the virtues of, well, that.
"Gold coins everywhere/ Dollars up in the air/ It's the billionaire's love affair," Charli sings over the driving track, bragging about her grills and off-shore bank accounts.
Despite being consumerism-facing, the jam seems to be a little tongue-in-cheek with its bombast, seeing Charli proclaiming, "My platinum troubles are drowning in pink champagne/ Escape into the sky in my own private jet," before admitting, "That's what I dream of in my head."
The track matches the swagger of previously released singles, including the Ramones-inspired "London Queen" and smash-hit "Boom Clap." We're eagerly awaiting more of Charli'x bravado when Sucker drops come December 16.
