Transgender Model Lea T Makes History As The Newest Face Of Redken

Transgender model-slash-Givenchy muse (and former assistant to Ricardo Tisci), Lea T just landed a campaign with haircare giant Redken as the face of its Chromatics hair color line. She's already dominated the runway, posed nude for French Vogue, and made out with Kate Moss for Love magazine, so it seems the next logical extension is to globalize her reach. She's been tapped to appear in both print and digital campaigns set to appear in January 2015.

In a statement, Lea T says:

We're all people with our own personality, our own beauty, our own life. I love working with Redken because they appreciate all kinds of beauty. They believe in the individuality of the person, and I think that's really important.

Of her new role, T admits, "It's an honor and a responsibility at the same time. [...] I know many women will look at my face and think about [the brand]." But it's not just her face, T also has a super enviable mane, which is even more reason for her to front a haircare brand.

The main reason Lea T's appointment as Redken's latest face is so major is this: Redken is not a niche luxury brand that's *only* seen in a certain echelon of boutiques. It's sold in big box stores like Walmart, drugstores, and salons. It infiltrates nearly every corner of the globe, demonstrating that there is a place for her and others like her in the fashion world and beyond.
