'Sons Of Anarchy' Just Killed [SPOILER] And Broke Our Hearts

Is this on Jax?

In the wake of this week's tragic "Sons of Anarchy," the lyrics of the legendary Elvis Presley's "How Can You Lose What You Never Had?" come to mind:

"You don't have the right to cry,

You believed your own lie"

Toss those words directly at Jax Teller, whose recklessness just resulted in the death of one of his closest allies and best friends.

SPOILERS AHEAD.

Tonight's episode of "Sons of Anarchy," titled "What a Piece of Work Man Is," claimed the life of one of the show's original cast members, and one of the most senior members of SAMCRO. Based on the events of the past two weeks, this man's death wasn't entirely shocking, but it was thoroughly heartbreaking.

We're talking, of course, about Bobby "Elvis" Munson, who has spent the last two weeks in August Marks' custody, tortured and interrogated at the hands of security expert Moses Cartwright. Bobby lost an eye, he lost his clutch hand, and now, he's lost his life — but he never lost his dignity, his pride, or his loyalty to SAMCRO, as he refused to even once give in to Marks and Cartwright's demands.

Who do we blame for Bobby's death? Take your pick. Marks pulled the trigger, but he points the finger at SAMCRO's president.

"This is on you, Jackson," he tells Jax, hovering over Bobby's fresh corpse. "Your betrayal. Don't ever lie to me again."

jax

Is this on Jax? He's the one who so wrongly and recklessly pursued vengeance against the Lin Triad for killing Tara. If Jax could only open his eyes, and think with a straight head, he could take a minute to breathe and think about what really happened, and how best to go about dealing with her death.

"If you want to slow this thing down, that's okay," Bobby advised Jax earlier in season seven. But Jax rejected that advice. The SAMCRO president went full speed ahead against Henry Lin, and, eventually, against Marks. Jax's blind-rage directly led to Bobby's death — and he died for nothing.

Sure, pin blame on Gemma for what she did to Tara, and the lie she told to cover her own hide. She certainly owns responsibility in her final moments with Bobby's body, begging for forgiveness as creepy Abel creeps in the background. But we've always known Gemma had this capacity for self-preservation at all costs; her role in Bobby's demise isn't much of a surprise.

Jax's downward spiral this season has been the real shock, and the real disappointment, considering all the needless death it's wreaked. It was only a matter of time before one of the most beloved Sons of all died in service of Jax's foolishness.
