'Clarence' Almost Featured Cartoon Network's First Gay Kiss

Here's why the moment didn't make it to air.

To kiss or not to kiss? That is the question Cartoon Network faced when considering whether to air a kiss between two gay male characters on one of its new shows, “Clarence.”

If you missed the très français double-kiss on the cheek from last week's "Neighborhood Grill" episode, here's the scene in question.

According to Spencer Rothbell, a writer for the animated series, the network decided to downgrade the potentially groundbreaking moment from a smooch on the lips to a more ambiguous kiss on the cheek by the time the episode aired.

"Originally the guy had flowers and they kissed on the mouth," he told to a fan on Twitter according to screenshots collected by E! News and a Tumblr user. Rothbell's Twitter handle is currently set to private.

What do you think? Should the Cartoon Network have left in the kiss? Or is it at least a step in the right direction to have gay characters present in their programs, albeit in the background? Let us know in the comments.
