8 Books To Read With Your Cat
So, you guys, not only is tomorrow Caturday -- I mean, Saturday -- it's also Hello Kitty Reading Day! Can you imagine a sentence more perfect than the one I just typed? Me neither. I would quit my job now and retire to the hills of Ireland if I didn't have so much more to tell you about all of this!
Hello Kitty Reading Day is being held Saturday (October 25) in honor of the little scamp's 40th anniversary, and 400 bookstores and libraries are banding together to make it happen. At these locations -- find out if your local one is participating here -- there will be myriad activities: Hello Kitty trivia! Cookie-making! Crocheting! Giveaways! Basically anything you could wish for in your pink candied heart of hearts.
Despite the perfection of the previous paragraph (I am on a roll!), we can think of one more activity you can engage in tomorrow to make Hello Kitty Reading Day the best day ever: Reading with your cat. Sure, sure, we know Hello Kitty isn't technically feline, but it's the (amazing) thought that counts.
Here are some of our best co-reading suggestions for you and your kitty.
1. "Ulysses," by James Joyce
This is a good book to read with your cat because it is very long. Therefore, your legs will be arrayed in the lap formation for an extended period of time, allowing your kitty to luxuriate and lounge while you try to figure out what in the entire hell is happening in said book.
2. "Old Possum's Book Of Practical Cats," by T.S. Eliot
Your cat will enjoy it so much when you read him poems about himself! Just don't tell him this ish was made into a Broadway musical replete with people poorly dressed as felines.
3. "The Art Of War," by Sun Tzu
Your cat has probably already read this tome, but she will enjoy a leisurely re-read this weekend in the sunshine. Also, sleep with one eye open...
4. "It's Called A Breakup Because It's Broken," by Greg Behrendt
This is a great book to read with kitty while mainlining ice cream and slowly dying inside!
5. "The Fault In Our Stars," by John Green
Use your Meow Mixer's soft fur to dry your tears.
6. "Garfield Fat Cat Volume 1," by Jim Davis
This is just a book that cats of all ages will enjoy!
7. Pretty Much Any Book By Haruki Murakami
He just really enjoys putting cats in his books and your cats will enjoy hearing about those cats.
8. "Lady Chatterley's Lover," by D. H. Lawrence
Because cats enjoy a good erotic read -- but, like, a classy one, you know?
