Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez aren't exactly your model couple. Sometimes the two singers seem so in love, and other times, they want to be far, far away from each other.

Whether Justin seems like he's moved on to a Jenner or a Victoria's Secret model, you've always got to watch out for Selener. The two may have broken up six or seven times, but they're always close to their next make-up session.

There's no denying it: We can learn from the sometimes-sweet-sometimes-toxic (let's be honestly -- mostly toxic) relationship:

1. If you want someone back...

...just post a random picture of them on a red carpet and call them "the most elegant princess in the world." Works every time.

2. Maybe you only do have one true love

It's hard to forget your first love. I can't get inside Justin and Selena's heads, but maybe their relationship is so difficult because they can't physically be in the same place at the same time. They're on-again-off-again-ness may just be your average LDR. They just can't stand being apart, so they can't be together. Maybe Justin and Selena are made for each other. Maybe...

3. You don't have to have a working title

You probably don't have people discussing your relationship as much as Jelena's. And you probably don't even have a cool conjoined name for your relationship. You can work on that. But also know that you don't need to define your relationship.

If you're dating, cool. If you're sometimes hooking up because you're busy making music with Cody Simpson, and your girlfriend is going on a yacht with Cara Delevingne, that's cool, too. If you guys are BF/GF but also seeing other people, you do you! That's cool too. Don't let people tell you what to call your relationship. Remember: Not everyone needs to be labeled.

4. Your fans are often right about your dysfunctionality

When you listen to your fans all the time (shout-out to the Selenators), and tell them they're "usually always right," it might be time for you to take their advice. If others see you're struggling, and they care about you, it might be good to switch up your perspective and look outside yourself.

5. Sometimes you just need a break

There is such a thing as getting smothered. We don't need to be together constantly to be in love.

6. Canadian retreats are romantic

... That being said, it is great spending every single moment together on a vacation for two. Private plane to Canada, house to yourself, romantic walks in the garden -- soak each other in. And don't forget to focus on your girlfriend's butt when you Instagram it all.

7. Follow or don't follow each other online: pick one

While I said you shouldn't have to define your relationship, being fickle online is less mature. If you take the effort to follow and unfollow -- especially since your hawk-eyed fans will find out -- you're sending out vibes that you guys are having problems. It's OK to have problems -- everyone does -- but don't put out a call for help if you're not going to take it.

8. Post pictures of each other to keep people guessing

But... if you're purposely trying to baffle us, why not play games? Justin did just delete a photo of Selena Gomez just this morning, and while we thought Selena was off Instagram, we really don't know what to think. If you're into manipulating your fans, this is your route.

9. Cooking together can be fun

This lesson is an important one because, well, food. Even Justin and Selena are normal enough to hit the kitchen together. In this Instagram he shared, we see how adorable it is when you and your love come together to make stir-fry.
