Joaquin Phoenix Won't Be Doctor Strange For Marvel

Ah, crap.

I'm sorry to be one to tell you this, but Joaquin Phoenix isn't going to be Doctor Strange for Marvel Studios.

I know. It's okay. Take a minute.

The report came via Deadline, who says that Marvel is going back to square one with casting, since they were really sold on the idea of Phoenix bringing the Sorcerer Supreme to life.

The moral of the story is that you should never get excited about anything ever.

I'm just kidding. This is still a Marvel movie, and the role is sure to attract some serious talent. Before Phoenix was Marvel's man, names like Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch were tossed around as potential Stephen Stranges, so all is not lost, I guess.

"Doctor Strange" is set to hit theaters on July 8, 2016.
