Watch an interview with Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn.

Sheryl WuDunn and Nicholas Kristof’s new book, “A Path Appears” isn’t for people who want to make excuses. It is not for people who say they can’t make a difference, because they lack the funds, the time, or the information to really be able to help others. And it’s not for people who prefer to look away from poverty, sadness, and suffering, rather than seeking solutions and reaching out to help. But it is for everyone else.

If you’ve ever wondered what impact you, as a single person, can have - this book is for you. If you want to read stories about people who seized an opportunity to drastically change someone else’s life, like the woman who donated $250 so a girl in Niger could get surgery to fix her clubfoot, thus drastically improving her ability to have a healthy and fulfilling life, you will love this book.

“I think there are a lot people who vaguely would like to do something, but [they think] ‘oh the world is complicated, its a bit of a mess, and it’s not quite clear what they would do,’” said Kristof, in an interview with MTV News. “We wrote “A Path Appears” partly for them, to give them specific suggests on organizations they can support, or volunteer for, or raise money for, in ways that will give them confidence that they can make a difference.”

WuDunn and Kristof are no strangers to writing about activism, in fact, they are the first married couple to win the Pulitzer Prize. Prior to working on “A Path Appears,” they produced the film, website, and game for “Half The Sky,” a movement focused on how we can achieve gender equality worldwide. They are both firm believers that education, and specifically the education of women, is paramount to solving some of the world’s biggest challenges.

“It’s a very hopeful book,” said WuDunn, speaking about “A Path Appears.” “It gives you a toolkit on how to bring about change, how to bring about a difference in life, and how to bring about solutions, so you too can have a meaningful life.”
