Ashley Rickards On Feminism, Stress Pimples And The Death Of The Side-Braid

The 'Awkward' star says 'power bitches' need to make a comeback -- and much more.

The stress of final exams made pizza faces out of the Palos Hills senior class on last night's "Awkward" season premiere, but you'll never see a blemish on actress Ashley Rickards' face.

Between playing Jenna Hamilton, starring in the new film "At the Devil’s Door" and penning a forthcoming book, Ashley has been under a lot of pressure lately. But in an interview published by Vulture yesterday, she calmly insisted that even if acne follows, she knows exactly how to cope.

"I have a huge pimple on my face right now, so I’m trying to game-plan the makeup situation for later on tonight," she said. "First of all, never pop a pimple if you know you have to be someplace with makeup on two days out. It’s harder to cover up a scab."

Ashley proceeded to lay out an entire regimen -- from powder foundation to a heavier concealer -- for how to achieve a buttery complexion. No, she's got no formal cosmetology training, but being a jack-of-all-trades is her own personal feminist approach.

"There’s a shortage of power bitches out there, and I want to bring that back," she declared. "Everyone can be a power bitch, and it’s a good thing."

Evidently, though, power bitches don't don side-braids in the upcoming "Awkward" season.

"I’m pretty happy because my hair looks great in every episode," Rickards pronounced. "Anything else, as long as it’s not that side-braid, I’m super happy."
