11 Artists Who Were Definitely Influenced By The Iconic David Bowie
Happy David Bowie Day!
While it's only officially David Bowie Day in Chicago (because Chi Town knows what up), musicians across the world have been celebrating the Thin White Duke for years. In fact, some of our favorite artists have devoted entire albums to the "Space Oddity" gender-bending glam rock pioneer. Some are no-brainers like Lady Gaga, and some are a bit more surprising, like producer Calvin Harris. Bowie's influence on these artists can be felt everywhere from his iconic looks to his entire musical oeuvre.

1. Lady Gaga
Besides styling her hair like David Bowie in her "Applause" video, Lady Gaga told British TV presenter Alan Carr "He's sort of like an alien prince. He still runs my universe as well, like, every morning I wake up and I think, 'What would Bowie do?'"
2. Leona Lewis
The beautiful "Bleeding Love" powerhouse ditched her luxurious long blonde locks for a red wig to complete this Ziggy Stardust affair last year. She captioned the Instagram photo: "If I were a boy...I'd be Bowie."
The "Tightrope" singer paid homage to Bowie's 1977 hit "Heroes." In a Rolling Stone interview she said, "He’s reinvented himself over and over again. Even now, he’s morphed into something that no one else is doing. That’s what I love most about him; he’s transcendent."
Even the electronic music producer/singer-songwriter cited him as an influence while making his 2007 album I Created Disco.
5. Arctic Monkeys
2014 MTV EMA Best Rock nominee Arctic Monkeys told NME they were listening to Bowie while recording their 2011 fourth studio release Suck It And See.
6. The Killers
Killers frontman Brandon Flowers admitted that the band borrowed the bass line to their hit "All These Things That I've Done" from Bowie's song "Slow Burn."
7. Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump
Fall Out Boy frontman named the rock star legend's Low as one of the records that changed his life and said that while Ziggy Stardust put him on everyone's radars, this album "established him as an artistically avant-garde genius."
8. Charli XCX
A 15-year-old Charli XCX heard "Sound And Vision" while recording her first album, and she called this Bowie track the soundtrack to the whole creative process.
9. Lorde
According to the caption, the "David Live" vinyl is the "coolest thing" Lorde owns. What's even cooler though is that the "Team" singer actually met David Bowie himself, held his hands and was told that listening to her was "like listening to tomorrow." CAN YOU EVEN?
10. Kesha
The artist formerly known as Ke$ha revealed in a Variety interview in February 2011 that if she starred in a movie she would want to play someone similar to David Bowie's character in the sci-fi film "Labyrinth."
