Gucci Mane And Waka Flocka Affiliate Frenchie Launches His Own Label

The rapper steps out on his own with Protekted Records.

With years of experience working with artists like Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka, Queens, New York native Frenchie has decided to venture out on his own. He announced this week that he's launching his own label, Protekted Records, with an EP on deck and a debut album down the line.

“I feel confident with my decision to become my own boss," the rapper said in a release. "I watched Gucci. I watched his progression, and how he developed the 1017 Brick Squad brand, the artists, and the label, to where it is today. Global.”

Though Guwop, currently incarcerated, could have been bitter about seeing the 1017 Brick Squad member move on, it sounds like the two remain on good terms. “I'm behind Frenchie one hundred percent. As far as I'm concerned, it's 1017 Protekted,” he said.

Frenchie hinted at his eagerness to stand on his own when he dropped his 2013 mixtape, Long Overdue. “I’ve been running around in this music for a long time man. It’s time now,” he told MTV News. “People know who I am, I’ve been underground and now is the time: Long Overdue.”

Next up for Frenchie will be his Fukk Fame EP, set to be released through Empire Distribution. His debut album, scheduled to drop in 2015, will feature B.o.B, Gucci, Waka , Migos, Yo Gotti and more.
