Opening the VMAs ain't easy, but when Ariana Grande emerged from a smoky spaceship glittering from head-to-toe, we immediately knew she nailed it. Her space-age ensemble was a custom creation from The Blonds, which mixed the campy '60s vibe of her "Break Free" video with the awe-inducing glitz of a performance outfit.

Ariana sported more than 10,000 Preciosa crystals, which were applied by hand (!!!) to her ensemble. Phillipe Blond said, "Since this was the first time she performed 'Break Free' we wanted to go with something super glamorous with an alien feel." I'll say!

The sculpted onesie also featured fabric panels around the waist with matching over-the-knee boots. David Blond said, "Ariana was so exciting to work with because we're all huge fans of Jane Fonda in Barbarella, this being the inspiration for this performance, Ariana's 'Break Free' video as well as our Spring/Summer 2014 collection." A match made in interplanetary fashion heaven. <3
