Whatever you think about Ryan Murphy's "American Horror Story" as a whole, you have to give the show credit for its advertising campaign, which many times, like with last season's snake posters, is just as horrifying as the actual season.

Since this season is called "Freak Show," it promises to raise the bar on the terrifying, gross things we've seen in previous incarnations, and while the first teaser gave us only a small taste, this second teaser begins to deliver on that promise.

It starts off innocently enough: a man goes to lick a lollipop. Just another fun day at the circus, right? Well, sure, until we discover that the man's tongue is essentially cut in two, and watch both ends slither around the pop like two halves of a snake.

Yeah, it's gonna be that kind of season. And honestly, we can't wait.

"American Horror Story" returns to FX on October 8.
