Meek Mill Ordered To Stay In Jail Following Hearing

The Philly rapper will remain behind bars for now.

Meek Mill has had a rough summer, and things didn't get any better on Monday (August 18). Philadelphia judge Genece E. Brinkley denied the rapper's request for an early parole, following the three-to-six month sentence she handed him on July 11 for probation violation.

Meek's defense argued that the rapper was improperly found in violation of his probation, which stems from a 2009 drug and gun conviction.

The assistant District Attorney argued that Meek was in violation because he posed on Instagram with a gun, tested positive for drugs, set up out-of-town show dates when the court asked him not to, and did not keep a direct line of communication with his parole officer. The defense, in turn, argued that the gun in question was a prop for a video, the drugs were prescribed by a doctor and that Meek wasn't adequately informed by the court of the limitations for out-of-town bookings.

After a 90-minute hearing in a packed courtroom that included DJ Khaled and members of Meek's DreamChasers, Maybach Music Group and Atlantic Records teams, the judge shot down the appeal -- which could have set the rapper free as early as today.

In addition, the judge demanded that Mill, born Robert Williams, completes anger management and parenting classes, as well as seek drug and alcohol treatment before he is let out. If the "Ima Boss" MC doesn't complete the three programs, the judge said he will have to do the entire six months of his sentence.

Now, Meek's legal team will take their case to a higher court. "The case is pending in front of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, we will file amended paperwork in the court tomorrow, asking the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to do what this judge refuses to do - recognize that mistakes were made and correct them," Christopher Warren, one of Meek's attorney's, told MTV News after the hearing.

There is no set date for a state supreme court hearing.
