'Godzilla 2' Gets Release Date: 'Let Them Wait'

The King returns in 2018.

Everyone, run! It's Godzilla. He's back... in 2018.

Legendary Pictures just announced the release date for the return of the King of the Monsters, and it's very far away. Godzilla will once again save us all on June 8, 2018.

Why the wait? "Oh, I'm sorry. I'm busy making a super-secret 'Star Wars' movie," director Gareth Edwards never actually said.

So with Edwards busy making his "Star Wars" spin-off for 2016, we're left waiting and dreaming of the day when Godzilla will once again breathe his blue fiery breath.

Back at San Diego Comic-Con, Legendary Pictures teased three of Godzilla's most famous enemies: Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah. There's no official word on whether those monsters will actually make it into "Godzilla 2," but it's clear that the company wants some big-name adversaries for the next go-around.

I'd be okay with more M.U.T.O., frankly. There's never enough M.U.T.O.

"Godzilla 2" opens in theaters on June 8, 2018.
