While most people remember MTV in the 90s and early 2000s as a bastion for music on television, it was also a major player in the world of movies.
MTV Films produced some of the most memorable big-screen adventures of that era, movies which had arguably as much influence on the generation that watched them as TRL.
Our friends over at VH1 put together this list celebrating 15 of MTV Films’ most memorable movies that Millennials should watch. It encompasses everything from “Beavis and Butthead Do America,” which is an unheralded comedy classic, to “Election,” the darkly comic high school film that helped make Reese Witherspoon a star.
Of course, plenty of your favorites probably made the list too, and you’ll get nostalgic for the days of “Zoolander” and “Napoleon Dynamite,” or start humming “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp,” the Oscar-winning song from “Hustle and Flow.”
Either way, it’s a trip down memory lane for one generation and a great cinematic starting point for the next.
